Under the agreement, EIM will establish charging and battery-swapping
infrastructure at selected HPCL fuel stations located along major highways and
freight corridors, leveraging HPCL’s network of more than 25,000 retail outlets across the
country.
The rollout will take place in phases over the
next 18 to 24 months, beginning with major freight routes,
including: Mumbai–Pune Delhi–Jaipur
and Chennai–Bengaluru The network will subsequently expand to
additional freight corridors as demand for electric heavy commercial vehicles
grows.
Each station will support both fast charging and battery swapping, with EIM’s digital platform providing real-time
station availability, remote monitoring and digital payment capabilities. Alongside conventional charging, the
stations will offer battery-swapping
services, enabling compatible electric heavy-duty trucks to replace a
depleted battery with a fully charged one in approximately seven minutes. Under the partnership, EIM will own and operate the
battery inventory, charging equipment and battery-swapping systems, while HPCL will
provide space, power connections, utilities and other supporting infrastructure
at its retail outlets. EIM is developing an integrated ecosystem
for electric heavy commercial vehicles that includes megawatt-scale charging
infrastructure and battery-swapping technology. The company launched its first electric
heavy-duty truck, the Ashwa 55-ton
e-tractor, in August 2025. It has already commissioned six heavy-duty battery-swapping stations across
the Delhi-NCR region
and Jawaharlal Nehru Port
Authority (JNPA), with a combined capacity of 840 battery swaps per day. EIM aims to expand its network to 40
operational heavy commercial vehicle swap-and-charge stations by the end of
March 2027.
The collaboration reflects growing investment in charging infrastructure
for heavy-duty electric vehicles, an essential component of India’s efforts to
decarbonise road freight. By
combining EIM’s battery-swapping technology with HPCL’s extensive retail
network, the partnership seeks to improve charging accessibility while reducing
vehicle downtime for commercial fleet operators.

to be deployed at locations where freight operators already stop, helping
improve network reliability while accelerating the adoption of electric
commercial vehicles.
