The
Malta-flagged tanker, managed by a Shipping Corporation of India-led consortium
and chartered by Petronet LNG, is carrying about 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG
and is expected to arrive at Dahej, Gujarat, on 18 June.
An official from the Ministry
of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said the safe passage of Disha signals
a gradual resumption of commercial traffic through the chokepoint following
recent diplomatic developments in the region. The ministry added that the
Directorate General of Shipping is in continuous coordination with the Ministry
of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, shipping companies and other
stakeholders to safeguard Indian seafarers and support vessel movements in the
Gulf. Authorities noted that a
dedicated control room set up to monitor the West Asia situation has handled
thousands of calls and emails in the past four days, reflecting the scale of
concern among stakeholders. So far, the ministry and DG Shipping have
facilitated the safe repatriation of more than 3,587 Indian seafarers,
including 50 in the last 96 hours, while confirming that port operations across
India remain normal with no congestion reported.
