The company has
signed an agreement to purchase the Saltwind Explorer, a 2011-built
vessel with a carrying capacity of 55,648 deadweight tonnes (DWT). The Marshall
Islands-flagged ship is equipped with four cargo cranes and operates in the
international dry bulk market. The
acquisition represents Transworld’s return to the secondhand dry bulk vessel
market following a series of ship disposals as part of its fleet restructuring
strategy. The company has not disclosed the financing arrangements or the
expected completion date of the purchase.
In September 2026, Transworld agreed to sell its 35,152-DWT vessel TBC
Kailash to Mandarine Ocean for US$9.25 million. Earlier, it also sold
container vessels, including the 4,250-TEU SSL Brahmaputra to Avana
Logistek for US$11.4 million. The
latest acquisition signals a shift towards strengthening the company’s dry bulk
shipping operations while streamlining its existing fleet. Supramax vessels are
commonly deployed to transport commodities such as grains, coal, fertilisers
and minerals, with onboard cranes allowing them to serve ports with limited
cargo-handling infrastructure.
Transworld Shipping Lines, formerly known as Shreyas Shipping and
Logistics, is part of the Transworld Group, an India-based shipping and
logistics group. The company retains its shipowning and dry bulk businesses
following the transfer of its Indian coastal and feeder shipping operations to
DP World-controlled Unifeeder in 2021.
The purchase of the
Saltwind Explorer is expected to support Transworld’s presence in the
dry bulk segment as the company continues to adjust its fleet composition and
pursue opportunities in international shipping markets.
