Blue Dart Express, DTDC
and e-commerce major Flipkart have entered into partnerships with the
Department of Posts in 2026 to improve parcel delivery coverage and reach
underserved markets. Blue Dart signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Posts on October 9
to extend its delivery coverage to Tier-III and Tier-IV towns and remote
locations. The partnership will enable the company to leverage India Post’s
extensive network to serve customers in areas beyond its existing delivery
footprint. DTDC also strengthened its
collaboration with the Department of Posts through an MoU signed on April 27.
The arrangement aims to expand logistics and e-commerce operations, including
nationwide parcel deliveries and cash-on-delivery shipments, by utilising the
postal department’s extensive infrastructure. Flipkart entered into a similar
partnership with India Post in May to strengthen last-mile deliveries across
urban, semi-urban and rural areas. The arrangement covers prepaid and
cash-on-delivery shipments and aims to improve access to customers in
underserved locations. India Post’s
network of approximately 1.64 lakh post offices offers private logistics
operators an extensive reach across the country, particularly in rural and
remote regions where establishing dedicated delivery infrastructure can be
expensive.
The partnerships
are expected to create operational synergies between private logistics
companies and the postal department, enabling improved delivery coverage,
better infrastructure utilisation and more efficient parcel movement. They also
provide India Post with opportunities to increase parcel volumes as e-commerce
and demand for logistics services continue to grow across India.
